HOSHANGABAD : A team of the food department caught 10 quintals of Mawa late night on Saturday at the local taxi stand. The Mawa was kept in a sack between bundles of newspapers. It looked synthetic at the first glance.
The department has estimated its cost at Rs 2.5 lakhs. Baskets of mawa were being unloaded from a Bolero vehicle furtively when the team members Shivraj Pavak and Gopesh Mishra noticed it. The driver tried to mislead them but the team summoned dial 100 vehicle and started searching the Bolero in which they found Mawa kept between bundles of newspapers. The food department team seized the loading vehicle MP 05 G 6552. Vehicle owner Zahid Ali resident of Babai was driving the vehicle. It was coming from Piparia. The other vehicle was MP 05 7381 owned by Shahzad Khan, resident of Itarsi. Govind Vishwas was driving it. The mawa was meant for sale in Hoshangabad market. Team seized the mawa and vehicles and started the investigation Shivraj Pawak, district food officer said that the samples have been sent to food test lab Bhopal.
