Demonetisation: Hospital refuses to give body; demands new currency

BHOPAL: A private hospital, on Thursday, refused to hand over body of a patient to his kin when they offered to pay bill in old currency notes. Irate family members created a ruckus at Sarvottam Hospital, Airport Road, under Koh-e-Fiza police station.

Ram Singh Jatav, 45, was admitted to Hamidia Hospital after a road accident on November 11. He was shifted to Sarvottam Hospital two days later. The family deposited Rs 28,000 with the hospital management.

After his death, the family members were handed over a bill of Rs 48,000. They offered to clear the bill in old notes. The management refused to accept the payment and said that it won’t handover the body to the kin till the payment is made in new notes. The police intervened into the matter. SP Arvind Saxena said, “After our intervention, the hospital management handed over the body to the bereaved family after getting a bond signed from them that they would make the remainder payment within a month”.
