BHOPAL : A team of the Special Police Establishment of Lokayukta, on Thursday, nabbed a peon in the Jail Department from near the Vindhyachal Bhawan while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 4000 from a doctor posted in Bina (Sagar) to hasten the process of the promotion of his doctor wife.
SP Lokayukta Virendra Singh said that the nabbed person was identified as Suresh Thakur, son of Jagdish Thakur, resident of Shivaji Nagar. The action was taken on the complaint of Dr Balbir Kathuria, posted at Civil Hospital Bina in Sagar district. Dr Kathuria, in his complaint, had stated that he had come to Bhopal around 15-20 days back to sort a problem related to the promotion of his wife Manju Kathuria, also posted at Civil Hospital Bina. He visited the offices concerned where he met Thakur who told him that if he wants to get his wife promoted he would get the job done for an amount of Rs 5,000. Accused Thakur maintained regular contact with Dr Kathuria over phone. Later, the deal was finalised for Rs 4,000. On Thursday Dr Kathuria came to Bhopal and as decided by the Lokayukta team, he called Thakur to collect the money in front of Vindhayachal Bhawan. Around 4.30 pm when Thakur came to take the money, the Lokayukta cops present at the spot in civvies nabbed him. During further quizzing Thakur revealed that he was posted as a peon in Jail department. He was released on bail after documentation and further investigations in the case were on.
