Save the saviours: Doctors in Bhopal hold protest against the assault on medical professional

BHOPAL: In a response to pan India call of Indian Medical Association (IMA), doctors including junior doctors demonstrated against assault on doctors, raising slogan 'save the saviours' on Friday. IMA observed Doctors Protection Day.

The apex medical body had asked all its state and local branches across the country to stage protest by sporting black badges, masks, ribbons, shirts and running awareness campaign against violence targeting healthcare professionals.

Doctors said that a series of violence against doctors in the last two weeks in Assam, Bihar, West Bengal, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and other places is "extremely disturbing".

IMA demanded the implementation of central hospital and Health Care Professionals Protection Act with IPC and Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), standardisation and augmentation of security in each hospital, and declaring hospitals as protected zones among others.

Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) president, Dr Arvind Mina said, "We protested in support of IMA call for the safety of doctors who are working in this difficult pandemic time in various states. There is no concrete rules and regulation for the protection of doctors on duty. IMA had given a nationwide call on this issue. We came in support of IMA as we too are face the same thing."
