Indore : One of the four accused in connection with blast in the fireworks unit in Rau surrendered before the police on Saturday.
The blast claimed life of a worker while four others, including two women sustained serious burns.
According to Vijay Singh Sisodiya, TI, Rau Police Station, as the police and administration began tightening the noose around the absconding accused, the factory licensee, Kamal Dingu, surrendered before the police on Saturday. A search is on for Ramkishan Dingu and Jitendra Dingu, Sisodiya added.
Sisodiya further said that the police were interviewing the workers to determine the cause of fire and also whether safety equipment was placed in the unit. He said that reports of explosives and chemicals beyond allowed limit being stored in the factory is also being verified.
It may be noted that the licence of the unit had expired on March 31 and an application for renewal was made. However, the administration had asked the units to withhold production until licences are renewed.
BDS to investigate
Police have registered a case and sealed the factory. Besides the police and administration, a bomb disposal squad (BDS) has also been involved in the investigation.
The administration is now checking other factories to see if they are engaged in production despite expiry of the licence.
