Ujjain : For the last 10 months, Jyoti Juneja of Ujjain travels 12 km daily to conduct classes for the students of Karondiya village. Over 42 students from Class I to X attend her classes after school.
She was inspired to take this initiative after her husband, Ashok Juneja, narrated an incident to her about a relative whose son failed in exams despite being a regular student at school. This forced her to think about the level of education being given to village children. Speaking about her initiative, she said, “I am a housewife and have never stepped out of the boundaries of my home before for 26 years, but this incident shook me, and I decided to contribute in the uplift of society.”
Her husband is also supporting her. After convincing parents of students, she started giving them coaching from June. To enhance knowledge level of students she conducts sports and cultural activities every Friday. She now plans to extend her service to women of the village. “It gives me immense satisfaction that I am using my education for betterment of society,” said Jyoti.
