Actor threatens to leave country; industry upset over the TN reaction to ‘Vishwaroopam’.
I think the state government is frustrated. Over-riding the lifting of ban in an order issued by Madras High Court, the banning of police authorities makes it very evident that they are acting according to the orders of the Tamil Nadu government. This shows clearly that the government is prejudiced against Kamal Haasan. Why is the industry quiet on the issue? We all need to stand by Haasan. There is a need for all of us, at such times, to show our unity. If Kamal leaves the country it will be a great loss to us. Why do we need to leave the country? We need to stand up and fight for our rights. —Pahlaj Nihalani (Director/Producer)
Kamal is a national asset. He has made a film by putting his everything at stake. He showed that film to the Censor Board members and after taking a legitimate censor certificate the film goes to the cinema halls… He is a victim of state terrorism. Are we living in a state where there is no law and order? This is a question, which not only a filmmaker should be asking, but also the people of India must be asking… In a country where you have the right for freedom of expression, there having a censor certificate and even high court, if he had to beg here and there, then what is the point? —Mahesh Bhatt (Filmmaker)
It is definitely an outrageous decision on the part of the TN government. Haasan, the actor, has nothing to do but to succumb to their decision. At such times, the Centre needs to intervene and help the victim to be able to survive on judicial decision. It is clearly ‘dadagiri’ of the state. It is ridiculous that a personality like Kamal Haasan is thinking of leaving the country. All this is due to the unwanted pressure put on him. The need of the hour is to stand up and speak. How many of us will leave our motherland? People who are responsible for this need to be brought to the book. We are creative people and our creativity needs to be acknowledged. —Rahul Dholakia (Director)
‘Vishwaroopam’ screenings cancelled before starting and even stopped mid-show all over Tamil Nadu! What a sad day!
Heartbreaking to see the greatest Tamil actor of all time talking about leaving Tamil Nadu, about bankruptcy and about unfair persecution. —Siddharth (Actor)
