Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Leela Bhansali pay homage to Dilip Kumar as they celebrate 19 years of 'Devdas'

Madhuri Dixit Nene, Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's 'Devdas' clocked 19 years on Monday.

To mark the special occasion, Madhuri Dixit took to Instagram and shared a couple of throwback pictures with a heartfelt caption.


In one of the behind-the-scenes pictures shared by Madhuri, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who directed 'Devdas', can be seen having a conversation with the actress and Shah Rukh.


Another picture is a poster of the film which features the three lead actors.

"Reminiscing some great and happy memories from the sets of Devdas. Even 19 years later it all feels so fresh! Thank you Sanjay for sharing these. Will Cherish these forever," she wrote.

She also paid tribute to late actor Dilip Kumar, who had worked in the 1955 film of the same name. He had played the role of a depressed alcoholic.

"Here’s our ode to #DilipKumar, just like #Devdas, you will continue to live on… forever," Madhuri added in the caption.

The official Twitter account of Bhansali Productions shared the poster of Dilip Kumar's 'Devdas', writing that the legendary actor, who passed away last week aged 98, will always be remembered.

"19 years ago this love saga was etched in our hearts and continues to linger with its eternal music, scintillating performances. Here's an ode to #DilipKumar, just like #Devdas, you will continue to live on. forever!" the tweet read.

Earlier today, singer Shreya Ghoshal also penned her fond memories of 'Devdas', with which she marked her debut in Bollywood as a singer.

"19 years ago on this day, I made my debut in Hindi Films in the iconic film #Devdas. It’s still vivid in my memories of the magical years of the making of the music. Always grateful to Sanjay Leela Bhansali sir for believing in that 16 year old girl and my parents for being there days and nights with me to make me into what I am today," Shreya had shared.

The Bhansali directorial is still fondly remembered for its lavish sets, exquisite costumes and elaborate dance numbers.

Madhuri Dixit recalls working with late Saroj Khan in 'Devdas'

It chronicled the story of Devdas, who, after his wealthy family prohibits him from marrying Paro, spirals downward and descends into alcoholism.

Reportedly, 'Devdas' was one of the most expensive films that Hindi cinema had seen until then. At a cost of around Rs 50 crore, it was a mammoth project.

It had premiered at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival. The film later bagged five National Awards -- best popular film providing wholesome entertainment, best playback singer for Ghoshal, production design for Desai, best choreography for Saroj Khan and best costume design for Neeta Lulla, Abu Jani, Sandeep Khosla and Reza Shariffi.
