New Delhi : CBI will approach court for seeking voice samples of its former prosecutor in 2G case A K Singh and Unitech Managing Director Sanjay Chandra to ascertain authenticity of the tapes in which they seemed to be discussing strategies during telecom spectrum allocation case, reports PTI.
The sources said the duo has so far not given their voice samples prompting the agency to approach court for the samples to match them with the audio recordings received by it. They said, the agency has sent the CD to Central Forensic Science Laboratory for its examination but could not provide voice samples of Singh and Chandra with which the audio recordings could be matched. CFSL has confirmed to CBI that conversation has not been edited and probably taken place in a room, they said. The sources said they are suspecting that corporate rivalry in the telecom sector could be behind the recording of the audio tape which purportedly contained the alleged conversation between Singh and Chandra and some more tapes are likely to surface soon. They clarified that so far there are no indications of CBI’s case getting affected in the 2G scam. Singh in his defence has reportedly told investigators that there was nothing unusual in discussing case related facts with the defence and it is a normal practice as far as it does not adversely affects prosecution’s case, they claimed.
The CBI had removed Singh from the 2G case after surfacing of the audio tape, which purportedly contained discussions between him and accused Chandra. Unitech had rejected the allegations saying Chandra had never met the prosecutor in the 2G case outside the court or had any phone conversation with him. The company has also denied that Chandra’s voice was on the the tape and said it appeared a fabricated voice recording sent anonymously to CBI.
