Kolkata: After a day-long drama between the BJP led Central administration and West Bengal's Trinamool Congress government that led to the retirement of West Bengal Chief Secretary Alapan Bandyopadhyay, the Centre is now set to issue a charge-sheet against him.

According to sources, the Central government is planning strict action against Alapan Bandyopadhyay for failing to attend the central duty.

“The central government had asked Alapan Bandyopadhyay to report to the North Block at Delhi by 10 am today. He didn’t keep the order for which a charge-sheet will be issued against him,” said the sources.

Notably, despite giving an extension for three months of service on May 24, the Central government on May 28 had asked him to report to Delhi by May 31.

Following the order, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had said that she would not release Alapan Bandyopadhyay.

“Alapan has retired from his post as his last day of service was today and from June 1 he will be my Chief Advisor for three years,” said Mamata, urging everyone to stand against the BJP-led government for ‘hurting’ bureaucracy.

Appointing Bandyopadhyay as her Chief Advisor, Mamata said that her Chief Advisor will get 2.5 lakh per month salary, along with other benefits of government officials as decided by the finance department.

Notably, New Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took to social media and supported her. Even the Congress has supported the TMC Supremo.
