Bengaluru continued to record a high number of new cases and deaths. The capital recorded 2,147 new cases and 22 deaths, followed by Ballari with 684 cases. But there was a sharp rise in Covid-related deaths in Mysuru, which saw 15 people succumbing to the virus on a single day.

However, in some good news, with the number of daily recoveries on the rise in Bengaluru, nearly 28% of the beds are vacant. “There are 4,276 beds in 11 care centres in Bengaluru. Right now, 936 beds (27.7%), are vacant. Of the existing 3,346 patients, 306 are due for discharge today,” said medical education minister K Sudhakar.

“Most cases in the city have been asymptomatic with the patients requiring only isolation. If testing, tracing and isolation continues, we are going to see a huge decline in the cases in the tech capital. However, the situation might not be the same in rest of Karnataka as other districts are seeing more cases,” a health official said.

Meanwhile, Congress MLA and former Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah’s son Dr Yathindra Siddaramaiah on Friday said he has tested positive for Covid-19.
