In the wake of rising COVID-19 cases, several state boards including CBSE and CISCE cancelled Class 10 and Class 12 board exams.

More recently, Assam and Manipur on Friday cancelled this year's Secondary/ Class 10 and Higher Secondary/Class 12 board examinations.

CBSE

In view of the uncertain conditions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic and the feedback obtained from the various stakeholders, the CBSE Class 12 board exams for 2021 were cancelled.

The decision was taken after a key meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Cabinet ministers and the concerned officials.

According to the policy for class 12 results, decided by a 13-member panel set up by the board, the theory paper evaluation formula is 30 per cent weightage will be given to Class 10 marks, 30 per cent to Class 11 marks and 40 per cent weightage to Class 12 marks obtained in unit test/mid-term/pre-board exams.

The CBSE scheme further elaborated that for Class 10, the 30 per cent marks based on average theory component of best three performing subjects out of main five subjects will be taken.

According to the evaluation criteria announced for class 10 students, while 20 marks for each subject will be for internal assessment as every year, 80 marks will be calculated on basis of the students' performance in various tests or exams throughout the year.

The CBSE informed the top court that results for Class 12 will be declared by July 31.

CISCE

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) on informed that the Indian School Certificate (ISC) Board examinations of Class 12 and class have been cancelled.

The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) has developed the assessment policy for class 12 Indian School Certificate (ISC) students. The examinations were cancelled this year due to the second devastating wave of Covid-19. The result will be declared by July 31, the CISCE told the Supreme Court on Thursday.

Though affiliated schools have still not received an official circular, the policy has been submitted in the SC by the Council. It states that class 12 ISC students will be marked based on their performance in class 10 board exams, project and practical work in various subjects, along with best marks scored in classes 11 and 12.

NIOS

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) has cancelled its class 12 examination in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' announced. The Class 10 exams were cancelled and the results will be on basis of an assessment scheme devised by the institute.

Odisha

Odisha CHSE Board Class 12 and Class 10 examination have been cancelled, in the wake of the prevailing pandemic, ANI reported.

Telangana

The government of Telangana has decided to cancel the Class 12 board exam for the academic year 2020-21, ANI reported.

The results will be declared on basis of pre-determined objective criteria.

Meanwhile, the secretary of the Board of Intermediate Examination is directed to issue orders for promoting all Class 11 students to Class 12.

Himachal Pradesh

In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur announced the cancellation of the Class 12 board examination for session 2020-2021.

Assam

The Assam government on Friday cancelled this year's class 10 and 12 state board examinations due to the prevailing COVID-19 situation, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by the minister and attended by officials of the Health and Education departments and other stakeholders including the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU).

"The matric and higher secondary examinations for 2021 have been cancelled as the positivity rate due to the prevailing COVID situation is yet to be brought under control," Pegu told reporters after the meeting.

Two committees, one each for class 10 and 12, will be constituted on Saturday to suggest a formula for preparing the results.

"The results will be record-based and not subjective.

They will be based on records available with the schools and the boards," Pegu said.

The reports of both the committees will be submitted within a week and the results of both matric and higher secondary exams will be declared by July 31, he added.

Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh has cancelled the Class 12 board exam. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said in a video statement posted on Twitter, "The class 12 board exams (organised by the MP Board of Secondary Education) for the year 2020-21 will not be held this year.

Maharashtra

The state board examinations for Classes 10 and 12 in Maharashtra have been cancelled this year in view of the prevailing coronavirus pandemic, minister Vijay Wadettiwar announced.

Speaking to reporters, relief and rehabilitation minister Wadettiwar said, "The state board exams of Classes 12 and 10 are cancelled.

Later in the day, school education minister Varsha Gaikwad said her department would soon announce decisions regarding the internal assessment system for students as well as policy for CET (Common Entrance Test for admissions) and other entrance examinations.

In a video message, Gaikwad said, The Maharashtra government has announced the cancellation of Class 12 exams.

According to this formula, the results of class 10 will be announced.

  • The marks of Class 9 weightage: 50 per cent

  • Internal assessment weightage: 30 per cent

  • Oral and practical examinations weightage: 20 per cent.

Gujarat

Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board have cancelled the Class 12 board examination. The information was shared by State Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama.

"The state government decided to scrap the exams for class 12 of the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Board (GSHSB) after taking into consideration the Centre's decision to cancel the exams for class 12 students of the CBSE given the coronavirus pandemic," Gujarat Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama said.

Haryana

The Haryana government has also decided to cancel the Class 12 exams conducted by the state board, Education Minister Kanwar Pal said.

"We have also decided to cancel the Class 12 board exams in the state which were to be conducted by the Haryana Board of School Education," Pal told PTI over the phone.

West Bengal

Class 10 and 12 examinations were cancelled in the state.

After the cancellation of class 10 and 12 exams in West Bengal due to the pandemic situation, the two boards on Friday announced the evaluation criteria and that the results will be announced in July.

President of West Bengal Board of Secondary Education Kalyanmoy Ganguly told a joint press meet that for the 2021 class 10 results a 50:50 formula will be followed. As per the formula the candidates mark in class 9 annual examination and the internal assessment in class 10 will be taken into consideration.

"For Madhyamik (class 10) examination the criteria will be on 50:50 basis with equal emphasis given on the class nine annual exam mark and internal formative assessment for every subject in class 10... ", Ganguly said.

The President of West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education Mahua Das said at the same press meet that the highest marks in four of the seven subjects the candidate secured in 2019 Madhyamik (Class 10) examination will be given weightage as well as his/her marks in class 11 annual tests.

With this weightage, the total marks secured by the candidate in class 12 project/practical will be added.

"The evaluation will be on 40:60 ratio (2019 Madhyamik results with four highest scoring paper marks and class 11 annual exams marks)," she said, adding for science/arts stream students the marks in practical/projects in class 12 will be added in the assessment.

Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh Class 12 Intermediate Board Exams 2021 have been cancelled by the state government today, Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma informed.

Now, as per reports, the UP board is expected to announce the evaluation criteria to mark the students soon.

Karnataka

The Karnataka government announced that the SSLC or 10th standard examinations will be held in July third week while cancelling the second year pre-university course (PUC) exams this year in view of the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The PUC second-year students will be promoted to the next level and the grading will be based on their performance in the first PUC exam.

Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand intermediate board examinations were also cancelled on Wednesday in view of the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the state. State Education Minister Arvind Pandey said the decision has been taken in the interest of students, teachers and guardians after consulting the chief minister.

Tamil Nadu

The Tamil Nadu government announced the cancellation of class 12 state board examinations and said a committee would be set up to decide on awarding marks to students.

Goa

Goa 12th Board Exam 2021 has been cancelled by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.

Bihar

Bihar has already held the class 12 board exams and declared results as well.

Chhattisgarh

The Chhattisgarh Board or CGBSE has already begun the Class 12 exams.

Rajasthan

The Rajasthan government on Wednesday night decided to cancel classes 10 and 12 examinations conducted by the state board this year in view of the coronavirus pandemic, according to an official statement.

The decision, taken in an online meeting of the State Council of Ministers, came a day after the central government announced cancelling the CBSE Class 12 board exams.

The Union Territory of Puducherry

The class 12 exams were cancelled.

Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Pradesh Education Minister Adimulapu Suresh said that the State government is trying to conduct Class 10 and 12 board examinations and that cancellation is the last resort. He further added that the decision was taken keeping the students' interests in mind and the exams are likely to be conducted in July.

Manipur

Manipur on Friday cancelled this year's Secondary (Class X) and Higher Secondary (Class XII) board examinations

Tripura

Tripura Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath said that consultations with all the stakeholders are on to decide on holding the Secondary and Higher Secondary examinations in the state.
