The Government of India formed the National COVID 19 Supermodel Committee in order to form short and long term plans to defend the nation from the deadly virus. The committee utilized SUTRA model, standing for Susceptible, Undetected, Tested (positive) and Removed Approach to make projections about the spread of COVID 19 in the country.
The panel working on the SUTRA model for calculating the trajectory of the disease in India comprises of three scientists namely, Manindra Agrawal, Professor, IIT Kanpur, Madhuri Kanitkar, Deputy Chief, Integrated Defense Staff and M Vidyasagar, Professor, IIT Hyderabad.
Recently, a message has gone viral on social media which suggests that according to SUTRA model, "India will be 97% free of corona from 18th June and from 8th December entire world will be free of Corona."
The message further reads, "Their predictions about Italy and Spain have matched exactly hence hope further strengthens into confidence and assurance for better healthy future. So relax guys happy times are coming shortly."
The Free Press Journal reached out to Scientist Manindra Agrawal, who is a part of the committee working on the SUTRA model in order to confirm the claims made in the viral message. Quashing the claims, Dr. Aggarwal called the information in the viral message "completely bogus and misleading."
