Kolkata: Sparking new speculation Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee visited Apollo hospital to meet Bharatiya Janata Party’s national vice-president Mukul Roy’s wife, who is suffering from COVID-19.

According to hospital sources, Abhishek spoke to the doctors and took stock of Mukul Roy's wife's health.

No sooner did the nephew of the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s nephew visit the hospital than the speculation started as after Abhishek left the hospital, Mukul’s son Subhrangshu said that he was ‘delighted’ over the visit of Abhishek Banerjee.

It can be recalled that a couple of days back when the political slugfest was on between the ruling TMC and BJP, Subhrangshu took to social media and without naming any party showed his support towards the ruling Trinamool Congress.

It is pertinent to mention that during the poll campaigns the TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee had time and again claimed that Mukul Roy is better than Suvendu Adhikari.

Notably, Mukul is known as ‘Chanakya' of West Bengal politics and was also a very close aide and advisor of TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee. In 2017 Mukul had defected to the saffron camp and is currently also the BJP MLA of Krishnanagar (North).

With Mamata’s affection towards Mukul, poll analysts speculated that the ace politician Mukul Roy might return back to the Trinamool Congress’ fold.

Sharpening the speculation more, Mukul Roy before taking the oath as MLA was seen talking with TMC president Subrata Bakshi inside West Bengal Assembly, and on being asked whether he will defect back to the TMC, Mukul said he will comment on the issue later.

Couple of days after taking the oath, however, the BJP MLA took to Twitter and wrote that he will continue as ‘BJP’s soldier’.

After his tweet, all eyes were on whether the ace politician will be the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, but that too went down after Mukul citing age issues suggested Suvendu's name.

However, in another political move West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh also visited the hospital to meet Mukul's wife.
