UP Minister booked for DSP’s death

Lucknow : Controversial Uttar Pradesh Minister Raghuraj Pratap Singh, alias Raja Bhaiya, was on Sunday booked for an alleged conspiracy to kill a senior police officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Zia-ul-Haque, in the state’s Pratapgarh district.

The DSP was gunned down by a mob in Pratapgarh district, where he had rushed to control the volatile situation after a village head was shot dead following a land dispute. He was shot in the head and chest.

On Sunday, Zia-ul-Haque’s wife filed a police complaint, accusing Raja Bhaiya and his men of killing her husband. She alleged the minister was harassing the police officer as he was investigating a recent communal clash in Pratapgarh.

Raja Bhaiya is a Cabinet Minister in the Akhilesh Yadav government and holds the Food and Civil Supplies portfolio. Last month, he was divested of the prison department in a reshuffle.
