Indore: This constituency of Indore is only five year old. It was craved out of Indore- IV and Indore- V constituencies ahead of Assembly elections in 2008. The constituency covers four wards from the city and 42 panchayats of Rau.
Most of the wards, to be precise three, and panchayats in the constituency are represented by the BJP leaders. The rural parts of this seat are dominated by Khati and Dhakad communities while urban parts have a significant number of voters from Marathi, Sikh and Bhramin communities.
In the first Assembly elections held in 2008, the urban votes decided the first MLA of the constituency as rural votes were shared almost equally by the candidates of BJP and Congress.
Two old friends with the common first name, Jitu Jirati ( BJP) and Jitu Patwari ( Congress), had contested elections against each other. The constituency voters chose less arrogant Jirati over Patwari.
But in last five years, Jirati “ turned into” Patwari. The general persecution of the voters is that the poll success went to Jirati’s head and he became tough to approach.
For two long years after he was made state president of Bharatiya Janta uva Morch ( BJM), Jirati remained unreachable for the people of the constituency. He has half of dozen mobile phone numbers but none responded when people in need called him up.
It was only in election year, he took to damage control. Some claims that he has done the damage control, others says he has failed. Amid the assumptions, Jirati has sought ticket to contest election again from this seat.
He staked claim on ticket for all the developments works done by him in the constituency. Roads laid, electric poles erected, and regular water availability ensured in every village and facilities improved in urban areas, but still Jirati’s is facing strong antiincumbency wave, citing which other BJP leaders including Madhu Verma and Mandhar Mahajan — son of MP Sumitra Mahajan — have also sought ticket.
Verma was appointed chairman of Backward Classes Commission a few months ago so some feel that the party has may given his share of meat and won’t entertain his name for the ticket. But Mandhar and some other BJP leaders are still in the race.
Whoever gets the ticket from BJP has to ensure that the lead in the urban areas remains intact and that vote base increases in rural areas. As for Congress, it has to increase vote base in both rural and urban areas. Patwari is again staked claim on the ticket.
CONTROVERSIES œ As Rajendra Nagar police acted against a liquor mafia, Jirati stood by the accused and allegedly got CSP Dilip Singh Tomar transferred.
- Jirati supporters thrashed a patwari at collectorate after which all patwaris struck the work. The matter later was sorted out.
- Misbehaved with supporters of other leaders. Corporator Jayshri Jategaonkar and uvraj Dube faced heat of Jirati.

What are the development works you have to your credit? Rau has witnessed an allaround development in last five years, be it infrastructure, education or social sector, there has been a positive growth in every walk of life in the constituency. Arts and commerce college was opened in the constituency and this year science stream will be introduced. There is not a single village in the constituency without concrete road.
There is no water crisis here and to ensure that in coming years people continue to enjoy abundance of this natural resource 275 tubewells were dug. Electrification in the region was undertaken and now Atal Jyoti Abhiyan ensuring 24×7 power supply as made life easy.
Works on Railway Over Bridges over Rajendra Nagar crossing and Kesarbagh and Teen Emil flyover commenced during the tenure. How would you explain the delay in the flyovers construction, there are allegations that you failed to expedite the work.
The works on Rajendra Nagar and Kesarbagh railway over bridge commenced during my tenure and I was the one who followed up to ensure that the project do not remain in file and become ground reality.
Since Railway ministry was involved, one cant escape the bureaucratic procedures and the file process, so definitely delay was there as all required procedure need to be completed to ensure that the project do not get hampered in mid- stream.
There still much needed to be done on drainage and sewage works in the constituency. We are working on these two fronts and they would be taken on priority.
ou are being branded and ‘ unavailable’ MLA, as people of your constituency find it hard to come in direct touch with you. Is it true that you have over half a dozen mobiles so that you remain available to all.
I was all there with my voters listening to their woes and redressing them. Sure, for a while when I was BJM state president I could not keep in constant touch with people of my constituency as I was assigned some other responsibilities.
But there after again I was there to serve my people. With what promises you will go to the voters this time My performance as MLA for last five years will speak for itself. People will definitely want to see this region grow and I believe that they have faith in me. My priority if elected again would be development of the constituency. I would like to have a big hospital in the constituency. 40- bedded hospital is approved, but I am dreaming of a bigger
