Mumbai Food Review: Sichuan food festival at Sofitel Mumbai BKC is offering great Chinese cuisine

A happy buzz awaits at the ongoing Sichuan food festival at boutique hotel, Sofitel Mumbai BKC’s all-day dining Pondichéry Café. Held in association with Fairmont Chengdu, Chef Jerry Tan curates an innovative menu with an eclectic mix of dishes from the Southwest Chinese region, Sichuan. This region is known as the ‘heavenly country’ owing to its abundance of fresh food resources and traditional seasonings… We sampled dollops of that via a range of authentic delicacies such as Sautéed Diced Chicken with Chilli Pepper, Sweet-scented Sichuan Osmanthus Fish, Sichuan Spicy Fried Rice, Chicken Pepper MaJi, Mango Sago and more.

Dimsums

The Seafood Hot soup was bursting with flavour, while the Vegetable Clear soup was mild yet heartening. Cane baskets held Double Cooked Pork Slices (superb!), Fried Water Buffalo with Shredded Chilli, Peppery Chicken (flavourful and definitely moreish), Shrimp Salad, and Fried Rice with Seafood. Vegetarians could munch on Mapo Tofu (delish), Sauteed Cauliflower, and Jasmine Rice. A range of both veg and non-veg dimsums at hand kept the interest up. Desserts included an array of cakes, puddings and ice cream, with the Mango Cheesecake being a clear winner. Hotfoot it across for a taste of one of the four great cuisines of China — the fest ends today.
