Thane police started a vaccination drive for police family members on Friday. In the past two days around 153 family members were vaccinated at the police ground near Thane commissionerate office. Thane police is first to start vaccination drives across the state.

Most of the police personnel working in Thane, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Government Railway police, Thane rural police reside in Thane city. Being government employees they get vaccinated, but what about their family. Busy with long hour duties during a pandemic they are not able to take care of the family. Hence, vaccination of the family members was important.

Pravin Pawar, Additional Commissioner of Police who initiated the drive said, "We contacted many of the family members who have not vaccinated themselves. And have a waiting list for vaccination. Getting the family members vaccinated was also important. So taking an initiative we had a meeting with Thane Municipal Corporation authorities for starting an dedicated vaccination centre at police ground. They got ready for helping with vaccination and other equipment and asked us to arrange the doctors and nurses. We then had a meeting with staff in our police hospital, they too got ready for the task. Also two new recruits who were compensated in police force on behalf of their father who succumbed in covid-19. The two new recruits had completed their nursing course. So we formed a team of doctors for the vaccination," said Pawar.

On the first day the vaccination was given to the family members of the 79 police personnel who died during the pandemic due to covid-19. "When we contacted the family members they were shocked and many of them were even avoiding vaccination. We counsel them about the positive side of vaccination. On Friday our team brought them from their respective home in Badlapur, Thane, Kalyan and started the vaccination through them. They were happy that the force still cared for them. Our priority is to see that the complete police family is vaccinated," added Pawar.

The vaccination is going on at the police ground near the Commissionerate office from 10 am to 1pm. "Following the government guidelines we started the drive on Friday for people aged above 45 years. Total 153 police families are vaccinated. We need documents including aadhar card, pan card and documents to prove membership of police family," said Subhash Dhawale, police inspector, Welfare department of Thane police.

Dhawale along with a team of 10 policemen have formed a number 8097355404 for registration. "We have shared the number with policemen and family. We take all the details including the name and the policemen posted in the police station or particular department. We do the registration from 10am to 5pm. Like, on Saturday we already had registered 100 people for vaccination on Monday. If we make an entry on Monday, the family member is asked to come on Wednesday. Only 100 members are registered on a daily basis. Rather than gathering a huge crowd we call the registered people on the particular day," added Dhawale.

Instead of gathering crowds at the centre and violating covid-19 guidelines the Thane police is taking up the drive for 100 people on each day.
