Mumbai: An anesthesiologist, Dr Rupali Kalkundre, age 31, working as Fellow in anesthesia department of the Tata Memorial Hospital, was found unconscious in her room on Saturday afternoon. Despite best efforts she could not be revived.
The case has been registered at the Bhoiwada police station. “We have registered a case of ‘Accidental Death Report’ (ADR) in connection with the death of Dr Kulkundare,” said a police officer. Dr Kalkundre committed suicide in her room and allegedly self-injected some medicine in her body which is yet to be revealed in her autopsy; the medicine decapitated her respiratory system. Her body was sent for a post-mortem examination at the civic-run KEM Hospital.
Humayun Jafri, the public relation officer, said Dr Kalkundre was a senior anesthesiologist and undergoing treatment for depression; the reason for suicide is yet to be ascertained. “The case was handed over to concerned police station and a case of suicide has been registered,’’ added Jafri. Jafri added, “She hails from Kolhapur and after her post mortem, the body was handed over to the parents for final rites.
