Waiting room was full of passengers awaiting arrivals
Mumbai : The Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus was full of anxious passengers, gathered outside the enquiry counters for information following delay in departure and arrival or cancellation of several trains due to the derailment of Nizamuddin- Ernakulam Mangala Lakshadweep Express at Igatpuri.
The queue outside the enquiry counter kept swelling but the only reply that the authorities had to give was no information is available. The trains did not reach the stations according to the revised timings and the authorities had no clue about the arrival as well. An angry passenger stood yelling outside the counter as his train was to depart at 4.15 pm and even at 4 pm it hadn’t reached the station.
Vijay Sadwani was anxiously waiting outside the enquiry counter with many others behind him in the queue. In the waiting room was his father Muridhar Sadhwan, a resident of Vakola; they had come to Mumbai last Wednesday for their father’s spine operation. Unable to sit due to his spine problem, the delay in arrival and departure of trains and absence of any proper communication left Muridhar with no other option other than to wait there in pain. Vijay Sadwani said, “The doctors refused to operate him because of his increased blood sugar and BP. He finds it very difficult to sit and has been told complete bed rest. We have not been given any clear information and are waiting here for the past five hours.”
The waiting room was full of such passengers who were eagerly awaiting the arrival of trains. Suresh Godani and his wife Maya, an elderly couple from Pipery, had come to Mumbai to pay last respects to a relative and were stranded on their way back.
Suresh Godani said, “They are just displaying information but no information is available at the enquiry counter. We are left with no other option other than to wait patiently.”
“At the time of rescheduling trains, there are problems and we have to manage the situation then. I understand they might have given inadequate information as it happens sometimes due to signal problem under such conditions. However, we have taken measures to provide information as and when it reaches us. The people who are suffering should register a complaint with the Station Master so that further enquiries can be done,” said Atul Rane, Chief Public Relation Officer, the Central Railway.
