Mumbai : Understanding the Indianness, knowing and understanding our tradition, culture, sociology, philosophy well, keeping away the western bias would help the nation prosper and progress in the truest sense of terms, senior RSS ideologue S. Gurumurthy said here on Saturday.
Gurumurthy was here to address a seminar on ‘Bharat in Current Socio-Economic Landscape’ organised by Chembur chapter of ‘Bharat Vikas Parishad’, a service-oriented voluntary socio-cultural organisation.
Gurumurthy warned that this is not a simple task considering the influence of western economists and thinkers on the Indian intelligentsia. “India needs a massive reorientation,” he said adding that our inheritance linked to the society, economy, tradition, religion, philosophy is not easily comprehensible.
Gurumurthy described the power of Indian society in terms of economy citing several anecdotes. India is the only economy in the world that has come up without substantial foreign investment, he said.
“Foreign investment in India in past 20 years is just one percent of the growth in the domestic investment,” emphasising that the real growth engine had been the savings made by the domestic sector.
“The family system of India is a boon. The economies like the US are on the brink for they ignored the families,” he said while describing how the paradigm of ‘social security’ is taking its toll on the US economy and India the same factor is taken care by the sense of social responsibility.
“Our English educated intellectual class is being deprived of all the traditional wealth. This perspective is never taught in IITs and IIMs,” Gurumurthy said and appealed people to form study groups to understand the several aspects of the concept and create awareness about it.

Genesis of Mudra bank
I made a presentation to the Prime minister regarding how the small entrepreneurial class of India has contributed to the growth of India and not the public or private corporates. This led to the formation of Mudra bank, Gurumurthy said. He also said that a restraint needs to be observed while deciding on privatisation. “Like Railways should never be privetised!,” he said.
