'Dreamt of this and it’s coming true': Twitter elated after Rahul Dravid appointed as Indian coach for Sri Lanka series

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah on Tuesday confirmed that former India skipper Rahul Dravid will coach the team for the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka. "Rahul will be coaching the team for the Sri Lanka series," the BCCI Secretary told news agency ANI.

This will be Dravid's second stint with the Indian team after working with the boys as batting consultant during the England tour in 2014.


Meanwhile, Twitter users were elated after the news broke. "You’ve dreamt of this. And it’s coming true. Rahul Dravid as #TeamIndia head coach," tweeted Rajasthan Royals.

India will be playing three ODIs and three T20Is at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo. Dhawan, who has not been picked for the World Test Championship final 2021 and the Test series against England, has been named as the captain. Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been named as the vice-captain.

Based on their stunning IPL performances, Devdutt Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Nitish Rana and Chetan Sakariya have received their maiden call up for India.

India’s squad: Shikhar Dhawan (Captain), Prithvi Shaw, Devdutt Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Suryakumar Yadav, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, Nitish Rana, Ishan Kishan (Wicket-keeper), Sanju Samson (Wicket-keeper), Yuzvendra Chahal, Rahul Chahar, K Gowtham, Krunal Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Bhuvneshwar Kumar (Vice-captain), Deepak Chahar, Navdeep Saini, Chetan Sakariya.

The schedule for the three-match ODI series and three-match T20I series between India and Sri Lanka was confirmed last week. The three ODIs will be played on July 13, 16, and 18. While the T20I series will commence on July 21, and the next two matches will be played on July 23 and 25.
