BARUN SOBTI HAS AHEART- TOHEART WITH LIPIKA VARMA
Barun Sobti plays Arnav in the serial alt145 Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doonalt39. Did he anticipate this kind of positive response to the serial? ‘When I auditioned, I gave three diff
erent kinds of look tests. I was just my normal self. I did not anticipate the over whelming response. Everyone vouched for my look and said, alt145 This is the character we are looking for.alt39Getting the role was a huge challenge for me. Clicking on the very first take brought about a feeling of exhilaration. At the same time, I knew there would be responsibilities I would have to shoulder. The serial is a huge hit because its storyline is very close to reality. Men do have this quality of trying to overshadow a woman. Every common man can identify themselves with the character I am portraying.’He adds, ‘I am not a trained actor.
I really do not know what profession I would be pursuing if I was not an actor. In fact, I was not even sure if I would be an actor. I did not ever choose to be an actor. I did not have any particular ambition. I always like to go with the flow.’Barun believes in being grounded: ‘I am not conceited about being applauded by so many. I feel the same. The only pinch is that while I was struggling these people did not bother to give me a chance. Having proved my ability they are the ones who are caring for me now. I know this vicious circle in this field has to be experienced by one and all. I am absolutely fine with it.’He and her co- star in the show, Sanaya Irani aka Khushi make a great on- screen pair. ‘Yes, both of us fit the characters. Khushis exuberant performance has made our pair click on the screen. Both of us have worked sincerely. There is no doubt that the serials spectacular feel is merely because of the strong script. Performances do matter, but they cannot be good always. I have tried to underplay the character since he cannot shout his lungs out but has to be effective. Story, scripting, and performances together have made this serial impressive,’he says.
We wonder what his off- screen interests are. ‘Actually, I like to listen to music. Reading books too keeps me busy. But since I am shooting 12 hours a day, I have no time to even sleep. As and when I get time, I love to catch up on my sleep. Also, since I am married, I need to set aside a little time for my wife. She is very co- operative and we share a great relationship. All we need is to understand each other and give each other space. We are a happy couple,’he reveals. What does he have to say about girls swooning over him? ‘All I can say is I am sorry but I am a happily married man,’he claims.
We hear hes bagged a film role.
Does this mean healt39ll quit TV? ‘Yes, I have bagged a role in alt145 Main Aur Mr Rightalt39. This character represents a righteous man. I play a wannabe actor. I am not sure about my future so it will not be easy for me to say whether I will continue working on the small screen or not. I take life as it comes. I am not 60 years old to bother about my future; I just like to go with the flow.’
