Ujjain: While a meeting of District Child Labour Rehabilitation and Welfare Advisory Committee was being chaired by collector BM Sharma at Brihaspathi Bhavan here on Wednesday, a 10- year- old child labourer was seen working at a tea kiosk at Kothi Palace.

Where government tries to root out the evil of child labour from the nation, several children are being pushed to work at restaurants, tea kiosks and other places.

Collector Sharma chaired a meeting of District Child Labour Rehabilitation and Welfare Advisory Committee and reviewed convergence project against child labour and national child labour project. For not allotting payment of scholarship to children, collector issued directives to concerned officials to convey a DO letter to Principal Secretary of Social Justice Department.

Collector directed concerned officials during the meeting that regular action should be taken for rehabilitation and welfare of child labourers. Collector praised Ujjain for better work in this regard. Child labour should be provided better education after diverting them from their work.

Though, collector and officials of labour department talked about various points through which child labour can be eradicated from society, the scene outside Brihaspathi Bhavan was quite surprising as 10- year- old Mohammad Asif was working at a tea kiosk.

He works between 10 am to 5 pm and gets only Rs 80 per day. It seems to be clear that government is making false promises by preparing records on paper and does not execute them at ground level. Zila Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Dr MP Patel, Joint Director of Social Justice Department RK Joshi and others were present during the meeting.
