Potato chips curry? Horrified Twitter calls unusual dish a 'crime against humanity'

In today's world, people are no strangers to alarming food combinations or unfortunate culinary trends. From ketchup-flavoured ice cream to peeled chicken nuggets and beyond, there are many horrors that await. And with netizens on a quest to find their next nightmare, it was only a matter of time before someone stumbled onto the idea of potato chips being cooked into a curry.

But that does not help make the visuals easy to bear. The original post appears to have been shared on Facebook by an account called "Kolkata Food Trotters". Going by the image, generous quantities of the wafers have been cooked with chillies and other spices into a dark yellow gravy.

"Minimum 14 years of rigorous imprisonment for this confession of Murder," read the caption for the screengrab shared on Twitter. Since then, the post has gone viral, with netizens reacting with horror and outrage.

And while some tried to argue that this was in essence a vegetable curry, or offered up similar alternatives (such as Rajasthan's papad ki sabzi) as a justification, they were quickly silenced.

As one Twitter user put it, "I never liked the idea of taking the strength out of anything. n this case the crispness out of chips."

Some however expressed their willingness to try the dish. "I mean it's just fried and flavoured aloo in gravy. Not a bad idea for a snack," defended one Twitter user.

"Horrible and interesting at the same time," remarked another.

"COVID time cooking enthusiast," jibed a third.
