A man from Wisconsin, US just broke a world record for most pushups completed in a year. He officially set a new record on Sunday June 6, when he performed rep number 1,500,231 on the 50-yard line at MetLife Stadium.

Nate Carroll, a father of three took on the challenge to break the record and raise money and dedicated his 12-month quest to break the record to America’s first responders by partnering with the Tunnel to Towers Foundation to raise money for its Fallen First Responder Program.

His 12-month period ends on June 13, and he plans to add to his push-up total and make sure the final total features the numbers ‘911,’ in honor of the 20th anniversary of the September 11th attacks.

"Averaging over 4,000 pushups a day certainly develop muscle in the arms and core. However, what was most noticed was my awareness of how my body felt and responded to the stress of thousands of pushups each day," Carroll told Fox News

Every pushup is documented in a log book, and most are posted on his YouTube channel in time-lapse form. He also relies on witnesses to ensure accountability. Carroll has applied to Guinness World Records, which will collect video, personal verification letters and likely do interviews to verify his integrity.

“It was an honor to set a new world record here in New York in front of members of the (New York Police Department, New York Fire Department and Port Authority Police Department) and other first responders,” Carroll said.
